Thought Creates Character

A person is literally what they think. Their character is the sum of all their thoughts.

Just as a gardener cultivates plants, we cultivate our character through our thoughts. Good thoughts bear good fruit, bad thoughts bear bad fruit.

"A man's mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild."

You cannot directly choose your circumstances, but you can choose your thoughts—and your thoughts shape everything else.

Every action springs from thought. Even our physical health, success, and relationships are rooted in our mental attitude.

Circumstance & Thought

Circumstances don't make you—they reveal you. You attract what you are, not what you want.

People often blame their circumstances for their condition, but circumstances are the outward manifestation of inner thoughts.

"Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are."

Your circumstances may be unpleasant, but they will persist until you change yourself. When you change your thoughts, your circumstances inevitably change.

Suffering is not sent to punish you but to teach you. Every circumstance, good or bad, is sculpting your character—if you let it.

Mind-Body Link

Health & The Body

The body is the servant of the mind. It obeys the operations of the mind, whether deliberately chosen or automatically expressed.

Disease and health, like circumstances, are rooted in thought. Sickly thoughts express themselves through a sickly body.

"The body is a delicate and plastic instrument, which responds readily to the thoughts by which it is impressed."

Thoughts of fear, worry, and anxiety quickly demoralize the body and open it to disease. Bright, happy, positive thoughts build vitality and strength.

Clean thoughts make clean habits. Purity of mind manifests as cleanliness in body. Change your thinking, and your health will follow.

Direction

Thought & Purpose

Until thought is linked with purpose, there is no intelligent accomplishment. Aimless thoughts lead to aimless lives.

A person without a central purpose is easy prey for worry, fear, and self-pity. These mental parasites drain life force and lead to failure.

"They who have no central purpose in their life fall an easy prey to petty worries, fears, troubles, and self-pitying."

You should conceive a legitimate purpose and make it your supreme thought. Focus your mental energy on this purpose with unwavering determination.

Even if you fail repeatedly, the strength of character gained through persistent pursuit measures your true success. The striving itself ennobles you.
